Songfacts®:

  • "For You, and Your Denial" was the first single from the violin-wielding alternative/punk band Yellowcard's seventh album, When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes. It was released to radio and iTunes on January 18, 2011.

It was the first new music from Yellowcard since their 2007 album Paper Walls, which was released as their record label was going through changes. With disjointed promotion, the album tanked and the band took a hiatus. They ended up breaking up in 2017 but returned to action in 2022.
  • The song was the first When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes track to be played live. It was premiered by the band on their show at the Glass House in Pomona, California on November 13, 2010, the band's first gig since reforming after the 2008–2010 hiatus.
  • Lead singer Ryan Key told MTV News how the album title originated: "It actually came from a young lady I was trying to, uh, take out for an evening, and she had mentioned that she was kind of seeing someone else, and had to think about it," he laughed. "I wrote her a text message back that said, 'When you're through thinking, say 'yes,'' and it just kind of resonated, I guess. As lame as it may be, it's from a text message."
  • Lyrically, When You're Through Thinking was inspired by events that happened both personally in Ryan Key's life and within the band surrounding their hiatus in 2008. "I think everyone just needed some time to refocus and recharge the batteries," he told Alternative Addiction of the hiatus. "When we got back together, everyone was really excited to be talking about Yellowcard again. I strongly believe that taking a break was really the best thing for all of us."
