Songfacts®:

  • "Here I Am Alive," the second single from Yellowcard's eighth album, Southern Air, finds lead singer Ryan Key addressing the "kid I was before" as he croons: "They say you don't grow up, you just grow old. It's safe to say I haven't done both. I made mistakes I know, I know. But here I am alive."

Key co-wrote the song with Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump.
  • The song features backing vocals from Tay Jardine, who is the lead vocalist of the New York pop-rock band We Are the In Crowd.
  • Patrick Stump was slated to sing on this track but clearance issues with his label, Island Records, forced the band to remove his parts.
