Songfacts®:

  • Vocalist Josh Franceschi (from Kerrang! magazine): "We always try to write choruses first, and 'Carpe Diem' was one of those where we wanted to keep the verses quite sparse so the chorus had more impact. Its written about the place where we recorded in Los Angeles, and it captures that moment in time. This album is probably the most positive and brightest we've sounded, and that's because we were in such a good place. It captures that feeling of seizing the moment and being pumped to make the best record we could."
  • "Carpe diem" is a Latin phrase meaning enjoy the present and not worry about tomorrow. It comes from a poem published by the Latin poet Horace,in the Odes in 23 BC as part of the longer "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero" – "Seize the Day, putting as little trust as possible in the future."

Other songs with 'Carpe Diem' in the title include ones by Metallica and August Burns Red.
