Songfacts®:

  • This funky number was the first release from Young & Company, formed in East Orange, New Jersey, by the brothers Mike, Kenneth and Billy Young. It was written by Mike and Billy along with their bass player, Buddy Hankerson.

The strong beat, sultry lead vocals, and memorable hook gave the song some impact, but the disco sound was going out of style, and it didn't crack the pop chart in America (it did reach #20 in the UK). The song did provide lots of source material for samples, including by Black Sheep on their song "Strobelite Honey."
  • Like certain Donna Summer songs, there's no doubt what's going on here, even though there's nothing explicit in the lyric. We can tell that Young & Company lead singer Jackie Thomas is really into this guy, as she repeats the line "I like what you're doin' to me" over and over."

  • Derek from NyWhat ever happened to singer Jackie Thomas? Can't find out anything about her.
  • Kevin Tennant from Long Beach CaliforniaAs a teenager at the time of this songs release skating rinks we're all the rage and this song is one of the major massive skat songs of that period. Also it was in heavy rotation on all of the black radio stations in LA at the time. It's one of my top 30 all time favorites. I'd like to know their story. They seem like an interesting read.
  • Forever Young from East CoastSuch a talented family, so sad that greed and jealousy broke them up!
  • Mike Young from New JerseyYoung and Company was formed by the Young Brothers. Mike Young, Kenneth Young and Billy Young. Buddy Hankerson was hired as a Bassist on "I Like What You're Doing To Me."
