Songfacts®:

  • This cut finds Young Thug trading verses with his YSL Records labelmate Gunna about their "hot" lifestyles. Gunna takes the first verse, which is mainly set in the bedroom, with some allusions to his love for luxury items. Thug's verse starts off with some bars about his inclination to initiate gun violence; he then moves on to some braggadocios rhymes about his wealth, during which the rapper devotes several lines to shouting out the luxury goods company Cartier.
  • The horn heavy beat comes courtesy of Wheezy. Young Thug, Gunna and Wheezy all hail from Atlanta and are good friends. They have collaborated several times in the past, dating back to Thugger's 2016 track "Floyd Mayweather."
  • Although "Hot" is included on Young Thug's album, Gunna handles the majority of the track. After the pair had laid down three or four songs during an all-night session, Thugger fell asleep. Gunna kept recording and came up with the chorus and one of the verses for "Hot"; he then played his rhymes to Young Thug after he woke up. "The London" rapper came up with his own verse, and the rest is history.
  • Travis Scott jumps on the song's remix. During his verse, the Houston rapper brushes off the backlash he received for his participation in the 2019 Superbowl halftime show.
