Songfacts®:

  • Yungblud's 2020 UK #1 album Weird! saw him telling his fans to be their authentic selves and not care how others perceive them. However, during the COVID lockdown, the English singer became aware he was questioning and criticizing himself.

To that end, Yungblud wrote "The Funeral," where he lists the character and physical flaws that he hates about himself. Over a driving rock guitar lick, he owns those things that are eating him up, ensuring no-one can say anything he hasn't already said. By honestly admitting to his poor self-image, Yungblud makes himself untouchable.

"This song's about owning those insecurities and just being f---ing fearless," said Yungblud. "It's about ego, death, rebirth and f---ing dancing on your grave. Inviting everyone to join you, but if you're on your own and you're the only one dancing – that's fine too."
  • Yungblud wrote the "The Funeral" with:

Jake Torrey (Justin Bieber's "Off My Face," Charlie Puth's "Light Switch").

    Glam-pop singer-songwriter Brasko.

The song's producer Chris Greatti. He co-produced every track on Weird! as well as Yungblud's collaboration with Halsey, "11 Minutes."
  • The Christian Breslauer-directed video features cameos from Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. The tongue-in-cheek clip starts off with Ozzy attending Yungblud's funeral, before pivoting to shots of rowdy crowds, fast cars, and the rocker performing the song. It ends with us learning Yungblud is being laid to rest because Sharon Osbourne ran him over while driving a car with Ozzy.
