The couple, who met through a mutual friend and had been married since 2006, announced their separation in October of 2018 in a joint statement. The pair explained their personal journeys had taken them in "different directions."

"Sometimes life can be challenging in facing things that are hard, and music has always been my therapy," Brown told CNN.
