Songfacts®:

  • This slinky pop song finds Zara Larsson finding romance against all odds, and being just giddy about it:

Never thought I would love again
Here I am in Love Me Land

Larsson thought her days of being in love had passed. She uses a geography-inspired metaphor to describe her excitement about the new relationship. "It's a place in your mind or in your heart where you feel like I can love again, like I can be free, I can be myself, I can express myself," Larsson shared.
  • Larsson wrote the song with Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter in Los Angeles the day before everything closed down because of the coronavirus quarantine. Michaels and Tranter's other work as a pair include Justin Bieber's "Sorry," Hailee Steinfeld's "Love Myself," and Selena Gomez' "Lose You To Love Me."
  • The music video shows Larsson dancing in a lattice outfit. "The video is just me, so I can't really hide behind anything," she told Project U. "Maybe the sparkles. But you know, it's just me in this big black room with this square light shining down on me. And it's very empty. And it's just like me dancing and expressing myself to the song."

Larsson added: "And I feel like that represents like, the mind. Because that's where 'Love Me Land' for me is."
  • Speaking during an interview on Good Morning America, Larsson explained the song is about taking a chance at loving again after processing a difficult experience.

"It's about taking that step of maybe having been in a relationship, and then it wasn't what you wanted it to be, or you broke up and it hurt really bad and you think - I don't really want to be in that situation again," she said. "So you protect yourself and think I'm not going to put myself in a vulnerable spot, but feeling that lovey dovey feeling is the best feeling in the world."
  • Vivi Huuska directed the video, working virtually from Finland. "She looked like Plankton's wife, Karen, from SpongeBob - just a little face on an iPad," Larsson noted to MTV News.
