Songfacts®:

  • This slow burn song is about Zayn Malik's breakup with Little Mix's Perrie Edwards, who he dumped by text. He penned the song following their split. Malik explained during an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 radio: "I just felt like I needed to put myself out there on that just because it was a form of therapy for me and it did help get me through some s--t."
  • Malik premiered the song on the February 17, 2016 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. It was the former One Direction singer's first solo appearance on late night TV.
  • The moody black-and-white clip was directed by Ryan Hope (Sam Smith's "Lay Me Down," 2 Chainz's "Feds Watching," Wiz Khalifa's "Remember You"). The clip features Transformers: Age of Extinction actress and Perrie Edwards look-a-like Nicola Peltz playing Zayn's ex. We observe the broody singer watching Nicola move on from their relationship as she hooks up with another man.

Peltz previously appeared in Miley Cyrus' "7 Things" clip when she was just 13.
