  • A clipping from The Leeds Mercury, December 21, 1923, shows that this verse came under fire when "All Things Bright and Beautiful" was included in school hymn books in Bath:

    The rich man in his castle
    The poor man at his gate
    God made them high and lowly
    And ordered their estate
