  • The photo for The Verve's "History" single was taken in New York City, where they spotted a movie theater that had been shuttered. On the marquee was a quote from Lord Byron: "All Farewells Should Be Sudden."

    This message suited the song (inspired by lead singer Richard Ashcroft's split with his longtime girlfriend), but also served as an epitaph for the band, which broke up shortly after the album was released in quite sudden fashion. The split didn't last long: They got back together about a year later and released the album Urban Hymns in 1997.
