  • This old man and me, were at the bar and we
Were having us some beers and swaping 'I don't cares'
Talking politics, blond and red-head chicks
Old dogs and new tricks and habits we ain't kicked

We talked about God's grace and all the hell we raised
Then I heard the ol' man say
"God is great, beer is good and people are crazy"

He said "I fought two wars
    Been married and divorced"
    What brings you to Ohio?
He said "Damned if I know"
We talked an hour or two about every girl we knew
What all we put 'em through
Like two old boys will do

    We pondered life and death
    He light a cigarette
He said "These damn things will kill me yet
But God is great, beer is good and people are crazy"

Last call it's 2AM, I said goodbye to him
I never talked to him again
Then one sunny day, I saw the old man's face
Front page obituary, he was a millionaire
He left his fortune to some guy he barely knew, his kids were mad as hell
    But me, I'm doing well
And I drop by today, to just say thanks and pray
And I left a six-pack right there on his grave and I said
"God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy"

God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy

  • Ed from Lewistown MtAnother Gilligan's island cowboy song ...Drunk drunk stupid. You can see the plot a mile away (raising hell and thinking you know GOD)...
  • TammyI commented to my husband about the millionaire part of the song as bringing home hard his point about people being crazy. It was one of those, "wow, didn't see that coming!" moments. My last point -- You never know how much you might effect another person's thoughts or life by giving a bit of your time and Self. You never know when you might be entertaining angels unaware. Thumbs up to the writers and Mr. Currington.
  • Greg Smith from Panama City, Fl.A very awesome song and I very much relate to this number. And the best part was the Old Man was a Millionary!! So Cool, keep um coming buddy, your music twist mine & my wife Lynn's ears!!!
  • Faith from AkI love this song, it's so simple and easy to listen to.
  • Scott from Horseheads, NyLori, if you listened more closely (or read the lyrics) you'd know the line goes "front page obituary/He was a millionaire/he gave his fortune to/some guy he barely knew
  • Bry from Dayton, OhI love the crap out of this song. I am from Ohio and had the opportunity to live in Colorado Springs for 2 years, after relocating back to Ohio from such a beautiful city and State, I can't get over the line " What brings you to Ohio ..Damned If I know" LMAO!!
  • Lori from St. Jacob, IlI have a real problem with the line "He was a millionaire-y." Seriously? Its dumb.
  • Breanna from Henderson, NvThis is a great song! I love the title alone, the first time I heard it I laughed and thought it was brillant.
  • Chandler from You Dont Need To Know, Tnbasically about he met this man at the bar and they were talking all night about all kinds of things then he left and never saw the man again then a sunny day he saw the man face in the bitchery(list of dead people) and the guy left his millions to some guy he barley knew and his kids were mad cause i guess they were snobby and didnt deserve it and thought the guy he barley knew deserved it and he prayed at his grave and put a six pack of beer on his grave cause he liked to drink just listen to the song and you'll get it =) its a great song
