  • In the mist of sassafras
    Many things will come to pass;
    And the smoke shall rise again
    To the place above where it began.

    Time will bring the fire and flame
    As surely as it brought the rain;
    But in the gardens of the moon,
    Time is held within the silver spoon.

    [instrumental bridge]

    If you're happy where you are,
    Then you need not look too far;
    If you've found your place at last,
    Then you need not use the looking glass. Lyrics licensed and provided by LyricFind

  • Jv from Grapevine, TxWhen I first played this record on my Dad's "Hi-Fi", I cranked up the speakers as load as they would go. As the intro to the song started, my mom was vacuuming about 20 ft away. She jumped 5 feet in the air, and ran to unplug the vacuum, which she thought was about to surely blow up the house. A funny memory we still share today!
  • Crenee from IndianapolisI thought this was one of the BEST psychedelic song ever written and SO FAR OUT!! I wish we could have heard more like this from them. They may have been up there with The Moody Blues if they would have kept going.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn April 5th 1969, Bubble Puppy performed "Hot Smoke and Sassafrass" on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'...
    At the time the song was at #15 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; the very next day it peak at #14...

  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn February 9th 1969, "Hot Smoke and Sasafrass" by Bubble Puppy entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #84; and on April 6th it peaked at #14 (for 1 week) and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100...
    It reached #15 on the Canadian RPM Top singles chart...
    Was the groups' only record to make the Top 100.
  • Farrah from Elon, NcI first heard on XM Radio, and if I didn't see the name of the song and group, I would have thought it was by The Moody Blues. Yes, the music is psychedelic to the max, but the voices sound so similar to the Moody Blues. At to me it does.
  • Sharon from Atlanta, GaThe first time I heard it, I thought it was by Yes. It's the ultimate psychedelic tune and I think the philosophy expressed it accurate.
  • Ekristheh from Halath, United StatesWe used to hear this on WLS Chicago. It entered the charts at #38 on 17 February 1969, jumped to #27 the next week, and peaked at #6 by 24 March before sliding back down to #22 on 7 April and off. It spent only eight weeks on the chart, but was a favorite WLS "souvenir" that summer. I remember sitting with a friend on a hot July afternoon, listening to it over a transistor radio, and talking about the "good energy" of the guitar solo in the instrumental bridge. It did not make 1969's Top 89, much to my surprise. I thought it was one of the best drug songs I'd ever heard. Still do.
