One Sweet World

  • Nine planets round the sun
Only one does the sun embrace
    Upon this watered one
So much to we take for granted

So let us sleep outside tonight
Lay down in the mother's arms
For here we can rest safely

If green should slip to grey
Would our hearts still bloody beat
    If the mountains crumble away
    And the river dry
Would it stop the stepping feet

Take all that we can get
    When it's done
    Nobody left to bury
Nobody left to dig the holes
And here we will rest safely

    One sweet world
    Around this star is spinning
    One sweet world
    In her breath I'm swimming
And here we will rest in peace. Writer/s: DAVID JOHN MATTHEWS

  • Erik from Groton, CtI look at this song as a man remembering the happiness of his childhood, and reflecting on how he has grown up. He mentions moments in his life when a child becomes more independent, but still longs for their parent's love (learning to swim, climbing a little too high in a tree or on a playground, learning to run faster, etc.). I think many adults have moments when they wish they could magically travel back to those earlier years. Part of the joy of being a parent is getting to watch your child experience those same moments themselves.
  • Jeremy from Clay, Nyi like it with dave and tim playing it but i also thik that leroi makes the song when the full band plays it
  • Ben from Harpers Ferry, WvThis is probably one of the best DMB songs. A celebration of life and being alive, and realizing that it takes work to preserve it.
  • Tom from St. Louis, MoThis song is great on the live versions. The lyrics are very inspiring and make you appreciate life. The instrumentals are just incredible!
  • Zach from Horn Lake, MsA song I didn't hear for a long time after I became a DMB fan, this one makes me feel safe and cozy. It is really good on the Dave & Tim album.
  • Dan from Port Jervis, NyI like this song much better when Dave and Tim Reynolds play it acoustically, if that's a word.
  • Roxie55x from West Trenton, NjThis song celebrates life on this planet. It also reminds us of how beautiful, yet fragile, life is so enjoy every minute of it-- "Take all that we can get/ When it's done / Nobody left to bury / Nobody left to dig the holes / And here we will rest safely."
I love this quote too--"Lay down in the mother's arms/ For here we can rest safely."-- It reminds me of turning back to my parents when things turn out wrong in my life.

  • Emily from Houston, TxThat ice cream rocks da house- listen to the song and eat it
