  • If you've got love in your sights
    Watch out, love bites
When you make love, do you look in your mirror?
    Who do you think of?
    Does he look like me?
    Do you tell lies?
    And say that it's forever?
Do you think twice, or just touch and see?
    Ooh, babe
    Ooh, yeah
When you're alone, do you let go?
Are you wild and willing or is it just for show?
    Ooh, come on

I don't want to touch you too much baby
'Cause making love to you might drive me crazy
I know you think that love is the way you make it
So I don't want to be there when you decide to break it, no

    (Love bites, love bleeds)
It's bringing me to my knees (love lives, love dies)
It's no surprise (Love begs, love pleads)

    It's what I need
When I'm with you are you somewhere else?
Am I getting through or do you please yourself?
When you wake up will you walk out?
It can't be love if you throw it about
Ooh babe, I don't want to touch you too much baby
'Cause making love to you might drive me crazy, oh

    (Love bites, love bleeds)
It's bringing me to my knees (love lives, love dies)
It's no surprise (Love begs, love pleads)
    It's what I need

Oh yeah, I don't want to touch you too much baby
'Cause making love to you might drive me crazy
I know you think that love is the way you make it
So I don't want to be there when you decide to break it, no

  • Patricia Rivera from Exeter, CaI agree with Trond B....and Hello! Come home!
  • David from BostonAll these years I thought they were singing " It's bigger than Germany!" instead it's "Bringing me to my knees!!
    Can you hear it?
  • Greenteeth from UkThis is for all the Narcissist people!
  • Ed CainHow Many Weeks did Love Bites ,by Def Leppard Stay #1 on Billboard chart
  • Phillip from Clarksville, Tnlove this song it takes me back to the day.
  • Erika from West Band, WiThis is probably my favorite of their songs because you can tell it's heartfelt and they actually put a lot of emotion into it. As much as I love DL, this song isn't just headbanging, AWESOME music. It's got feeling, and I love to see that side of such a hardcore band. Great job, Leppard!
  • Linc from Beaumont, TxPhil Collen was in the original cut of the Beatle's A Hard Day's Night but was later cut out of the movie version...he is on the Hard's Day's Night Documentary and the clip shows him sitting in the audience. He says his school was asked to go and they all thought they were just going to some assembly and then a guy walks out and say, "the Beatles!"
  • Al from Vancover, AndorraA popular rumor about the song concerns the final seconds. After the line "If you got love in your sights, Watch out, Love Bites", what is seemingly heard is "Jesus of Nazareth, Go to Hell" . This rumor has been refuted by the band, most notably on a Hysteria documentary. The line is in fact producer Mutt Lange rambling in a Yorkshire accent, to the effect of "Yes it does, Bloody Hell", with the aid of a vocoder.
  • Michael from San Diego, Ca"I don't want to touch you too much, baby.....cause making love to you might drive me crazy!" Impassioned lyrics on this great ballad.
  • Andrew from London, EnglandI used to sit in front of this fairly quiet lad at school. never spoke to him, never paid him much attention, just noticed his hairstyle. Turned out he was Phil Collen from Def Leppard.
  • Trond B from Kristiansand, NorwayThe first song fact looks off the mark to me, but perhaps that's because I'm not a native English speaker. My interpretation is that the song is about a man finds that his girlfriend has lost interest in their relationship and is absent-minded during intimate moments. The main person, the singer, feels left out but still cannot give up love, because it has such a hold on him. Even though the first verse refers to other lovers, it is in a more general way, asking her if she always is like that, no matter who she makes love to. His conclusion is that he won't pursue the matter too far, dreading he would break the relationship. (still my point of view)
  • Trond B from Kristiansand, NorwayI'm not sure if the fact saying 'actual "love bites" or bites as a slang', points to "love bites" meaning that it both may suck/stink but also it can bite you like an aggressive animal would bite its victim. At least that's my take on the lyrics. I see a third meaning of "love bites" like in a bite from a lover, but that would not make sense in this song, I guess. I loved reading the comment Joe Elliot made in an interview stating that this song is one of the few that made his mum actually weep true tears, I instantly felt sympathy for them both. :)
  • Nick from Paramus, NjFYI: Joe Elloit says at the end (and beginning) of the song, "If you've got love in your sights, watch out, love bites." and Mutt Lange replies to him, "Yes it does, bloody hell..." NOTHING to do with satanism.
  • Kevin from Northeastern, SdI've noticed the voice at the end of the song too. It almost sounds like "Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Go To Hell" but I'd hate to think that a fun-loving kickass band like Lep would be satan-worshiping junkies. Maybe Mutt added that in post-production; we all know he's made a deal with the devil.
  • Aimee from Boston, Mahas anyone ever noticed that when you crank up the very end of this song at the fade out, a raspy voice is heard to say ".....something something...go to hell!"
  • John from Northam, Australiathis would prob hav to be leppards greatest, its good coz it explains lik the felling i feel bout a girl
  • Suzi from Charleston , ScAWESOME song--love it. one of my favorites of theirs
