  • Somewhere out on that horizon
    Out beyond the neon lights
I know there must be somethin' better
But there's nowhere else in sight
    It's survival in the city
When you live from day to day
City streets don't have much pity
    When you're down, that's where you'll stay

    In the city (oh, oh)
    (Ooh)
    In the city
    (Oh, oh)

I was born here in the city
With my back against the wall
Nothing grows and life ain't very pretty
No one's there to catch you when you fall
    Somewhere out on that horizon
Far away from the neon sky
I know there must be somethin' better
And I can't stay another night

    In the city (oh, oh)
    (Ooh, ooh)
    In the city
    (Oh, oh)

    In the city
    In the city
In the city (oh, oh) Writer/s: Barry R. De Vorzon, Joe Fidler Walsh

  • Josh from FloridaWho sang this song on the Hell Freezes Over album — Joe or Don?
  • Handsome Mike On A Bike, Better Known As Minertwist. from Here On Earth's Beautiful California Golden StateWhat can I say. The Eagles have the great hits that help me to stay focused on my art. I'm trying to manifest my destiny of being one of the great artist of our time. I was lucky to be able to love and admire one of the great California lowbrow ladies and I wish she would come back into my life.
  • Dave Jamieson from Scotland Why was "In the city" omitted form the credits in the warrior's film?
  • Doug from Bristol, MeCatch the live version of "In the City" on the Eagles' Hell Freezes Over CD. From the first couple of guitar chords, the crowd goes nuts. At the end of that one, instead of the repeat-and-fade of the original JW and later The Long Run versions, they close out with the opening riff to the Beatles' "Day Tripper." Good stuff.
  • Mayank from Ranchi, IndiaVery happy song ;-) Joe Walsh is funny in his vocals but the lyrics are amazing about how city-life is and how people leave you when you need help.
