  • From the red sky of the East
To the sunset in the West
    We have cheated death
    And he has cheated us

But that was just a dream
And this is what it means
    We are sleeping
    And we'll dream forevermore

And the fragment remains of our memories
And the shadows remain with our hands
    Deeper grey, come to mourn
All the colors of the dawn
Will this journeyman's day be his last?

    I know what I want
    I'll say what I want
And no one can take it away
    I know what I want
    I'll say what I want
And no one can take it away

    I know what I want
    I'll say what I want
And no one can take it away
    I know what I want
    I'll say what I want
And no one can take it away

    But the memory still remains
All the past years not so strange
Our winter times are like a silent shroud
And the heartbeat of the day
    Drives the mist away
And winter's not the only dream around

In your life, you may choose desolation
And the shadows you build with your hands
If you turn to the light
That is burning in the night
Then your journeyman's day has begun

    I know what I want
    I'll say what I want
And no one can take it away
    I know what I want
    I'll say what I want
And no one can take it away

    I know what I want
    I'll say what I want
And no one can take it away
    I know what I want
    I'll say what I want
And no one can take it away

(Spare your life and choose your destruction)
    (Of time over yourself)

In your life, you may choose desolation
And the shadows you build with your hands
If you turn to the light
That is burning in the night
Then your journeyman's day has begun, yeah

    I know what I want
    And I'll I say what I want
And no one can take it away
    I know what I want
    I'll say what I want
And no one can take it away

    I know what I want
    I'll I say what I want
And no one can take it away
    I know what I want
    I'll say what I want
And no one can take it away Writer/s: Adrian Smith, Bruce Dickinson, David Harris Stephen

  • Gorm from SwedenFor me, it's about oppression. A long-term oppression. And the process of free yourself from it. "I know what I want, I say what I want and no-one can take it away" referres to the realisation that that you in fact know what you want etc. If you've been oppressed for a long time it isn't always obvious. The oppressor(s) tell you what to do, what to think and what to say. When you're free from the oppression and you realise this, you can begin to build your life as you want it. A form of freedom most people take for granted but not everyone experience. A very beautiful song who gives comfort and strength to carry on.
  • Heppek from CologneI think the song describes the plot of the 1957 movie "The seventh seal"
  • Rock Lee from Hidden Leaves Village, JapanDon't get me wrong, it is a good song, though if you think about it the song is kind of depressing.
  • Rock Lee from Hidden Leaves Village, JapanGood song but it can kind of get you depressed when you hear it- "I know what I want, I'll say what I want, and no one can take it away" kind of sticks out in your mind.
  • Ryan from Bethany, OkEventhough singer Bruce Dickinson says this song is about writing and being a musician on Death on the Road, the song sounds like its about life.
