Tin Cup Chalice

  • I wanna go back to the island
Where the shrimp boats tie up to the pilin'
Give me oysters and beer for dinner every day of the year
And I'll feel fine, I'll feel fine

    'Cause I wanna be there
Wanna go back down and lie beside the sea there
With a tin cup for a chalice
Fill it up with good red wine
    And I'm a-chewin' on a honeysuckle vine

Yeah, now the sun goes slidin' 'cross the water
Sailboats, they go searchin' for the breeze
    Salt air, it ain't thin
It can stick right to your skin
    And make you feel fine
    It makes you feel fine

    I wanna be there
Wanna go back down and get high by the sea there
With a tin cup for a chalice
Fill it up with good red wine
    And I'm a-chewin' on a honeysuckle vine

Yes, and now you heard my strange proposal
Get that Packard up and let's move
I wanna be there before the day
Tries to steal away and leave us behind
    I've made up my mind

    And I wanna be there
I wanna go back down and lie beside the sea there
With a tin cup for a chalice
Fill it up with good red wine
    And I'm a-chewin' on a honeysuckle vine

Yeah, with a tin cup for a chalice
Fill it up with good red wine
And I'm a-chewin' on a honeysuckle vine Writer/s: Jimmy Buffet

  • Fins from Key WestI play this song everytime I fish the flats around Ballast key.. The best batch of buffett songs were written in key west in the 70s and 80s.. I just heard the latest JB song called down at the la de dah..Makes you think how things always go full circle. Thanks JB for all these songs..they are timeless.
  • Scott from Grand Rapids, MiStill like "Bubbas" old stuff the best (White Sport Coat, AIA, etc). The Packard belonged to Jerry Jeff walker who first took Jimmy to south Fla in the early 70's - Cocunut Grove. I believe Rick wakeman of Yes fame bought the car in an auction. Apparently Rick was a Jerry Jeff fan, - Who isn't?
  • Laurie from Smiths Grove, Kyjimmy buffett is a god!
  • Darrell from Eugene, United StatesReferring to the line about the Packard:
The Packard automobile was first built in 1901, and production of "real" Packards continued until 1956, when the cars were nothing more than Studebaker automobiles with Packard-style taillights and grilles. The last Packards were, in my opinion, the ugliest cars of the 1950s, and they make an AMC Pacer or a Pontiac Aztek look good in comparison. Packards were thought of as being as good as the Cadillac, the Chrysler Imperial, the Lincoln and even the Rolls Royce.
  • Calen from Lake Forest Park, WaThis is Jimmy's greatest song.
