I've been down this road before
    I remember every tree
    Every single blade of grass
Holds a special place for me
    And I remember every town
    And every hotel room
    Every song I ever sang
On a guitar out of tune

    I remember everything
    Things I can't forget
The way you turned and smiled on me
On the night that we first met
    And I remember every night
    Your ocean eyes of blue
How I miss you in the morning light
    Like roses miss the dew

I've been down this road before
    Alone as I can be
Careful not to let my past
    Go sneaking up on me
Got no future in my happiness
    Though regrets are very few
    Sometimes a little tenderness
Was the best that I could do

    I remember everything
    Things I can't forget
    Swimming pools of butterflies
That slipped right through the net
    And I remember every night
    Your ocean eyes of blue
How I miss you in the morning light
    Like roses miss the dew

How I miss you in the morning light
Like roses miss the dew Writer/s: John E Prine, Pat Mclaughlin

  • Maria Nunes from Roseburg OregonI encountered John Prine at a friends house in 1973. I learned all the words and would go to work and try to sing the songs so we could sing along together. I am not a singer, but I had the idea if we could sing Sam Stone in barbershop it would become my workmates favorite tune.m we never sang it but they learned the words to some of those songs and would recite them at glorisly inappropriate times. Even years afterwords one workmate would walk up to me and begin. Those songs made me so happy.
I collected John Prine albums but that was difficult in the places I lived. Not a lot of places to go search plus always a broke single mother.
My 58 year old son loves John Prine and plays him regularly. I just sent him the name of a song I play often, In Spite of Ourselves.
My husband wants to see Trump charged with John’s murder because of how he put the Covid 19 pandemic onto the American people especially on John Prine.
  • Eric from OregonThe first time I heard this song, my impression was that it was a love song from John to, well, everybody. Fiona, his fans, Americans, etc.
