  • Julie from Utah like why ? why why is it only from california i mean they just brag about how dirty it is i mean realy my cuz brags about how california girls are so sexy and it saids bad stuff
  • Gino from HoustonSippin' gin and juice was part of my lyrics by the way because I was merely 18-19 years old when I wrote my part of this song. I did not drink all that much, and I did not believe finding greener grass involved any drink stronger than gin and juice.
  • Gino from HoustonOkay, I am the Mutt in the Lange, the original Desmond Child, wrote Money for Nothing and many other pseudonyms. I co-wrote California Gurls. Well the song used some of my lyrics and my tune. This is one of the songs I sang on a tape acappella. The other songs I remember recorded on the tape were Sole Survivor (Asia), Photograph (Def Leppard), Stagefright (Def Leppard), Money For Nothing (Dire Straits) and last but not least (Californai Gurls or it might have been Kalifornia Gurls (Katy Perry). From the best i remember, Money for Nothing was on the tape. This song goes all the way back to the early 80's. Yes you are right, the song was to pay homage to the Beach Boys because I do like the Beach Boys. I was going to make an album paying homage to the Beach Boys and name the band something like Beach .... Back in the 80's I was treated like a Mutt. No serious I was treated like part Italian by some, part Indian by some amongst others trying to profile what I was. I was never accepted by any particular race - a total outsider. There was still desegregation in the school system. I would always hear about California. The Beach Boys created a good image of California along with many songs such as California Dreamin. I would dream of where the grass is really greener. Since I knew California was associated with film also, I added Daisy Duke into the song. Don't get me wrong - I had good parents, but I just did not fit in down here at all as a kid. I played high school baseball. With everything that eventually happened at Sears package pickup/lounge/catalog back in the 80's, and from all the songs I pitched at Sears package pickup/lounge/catalog area, I found that the models, rockers and corporate personnel found their green. Yeah, the grass is really greener somewhere, and I am not so sure it is California anymore but somewhere. My grass is in my yard has turned to dirt, so this is ironic.

  • Joel from Seattle, WaAwesome song. I dated a "California Gurl" when I was in college and I guess I still have soft spot for them eventhough I am in a relationship with an East Coast girl.
  • Dayle Vickery from Orange Park, FlAbsolutely LOVE this song! I can be in a rotten mood and then I hear Snoop say "Let's take a journey" and I'm ALL RIGHT again!
  • Jessica from Fairfax, VaI don't even like songs like this normally, but I'm absolutely in love with this song!
  • Alex from Middletown, NjIt seems to me that she's saying in that californian girls are whores
  • Dan from Sydney, AustraliaUm, this sounds exactly like that annoying Kesha song Tik Tok. Even the wo-oh-oh-oh-oh in the chorus is similar.
