  • Well, my friends, the time has come
Raise the roof and have some fun
Throw away the work to be done
    Let the music play on
    Everybody sing, everybody dance
Lose yourself in wild romance, we going to
    Parti', karamu', fiesta, forever
    Come on and sing along
We're going to parti', karamu', fiesta, forever
    Come on and sing along

All night long (all night), all night (all night)
All night long (all night), all night (all night)
All night long (all night), all night (all night)
All night long (all night), ooh yeah (all night)

People dancing all in the street
See the rhythm all in their feet
Life is good, wild and sweet
    Let the music play on
Feel it in your heart and feel it in your soul
Let the music take control, we going to
    Parti', liming, fiesta, forever
Come on and sing my song

All night long (all night) oh (all night)
All night long (all night) yeah (all night)
All night long (all night) yeah (all night)
All night long (all night) (all night)

Yeah, once you get started you can't sit down
    Come join the fun, it's a merry-go-round
    Everyone's dancing their troubles away
Come join our party, see how we play

  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn October 1st 1983, a video of Lionel Richie performing "All Night Long" was aired on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'...
Nineteen days earlier on September 11th, 1983 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #62; and on November 6th, 1983 it peaked at #1 {for 4 weeks} and spent 20 weeks on the Top 100...
    And on October 16th, 1983 it also reached #1 {for 7 weeks} on Billboard's R&B Singles chart...
On November 6th, 1983 it once again reached #1 {for 4 weeks}, this time on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart {during 1983 he had two other #1 records on the 'Adult' chart; "You Are" for 6 weeks and "My Love" for 4 weeks, for a grand total of 14 weeks at #1 during 1983}.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyThree completely different records titled "All Night Long" have charted; in 1980 Joe Walsh peaked at #19 with his, in 1962 Sandy Nelson's instrumental reached #75, and in 1956 Jo Stafford just made the Top 100 with hers, it peaked at #99!!!
  • Sue from Eugene, OrWhen the orchestra started to play this song after the closing ceremonies of the 1984 Olympics in LA, all the athletes and people on the field pontaneously began to dance. The people in the stands were mesmerized. The orchestra, obviously caught up in the feeling of ...words fail me..maybe "unity".. continued to play the chorus
and the athletes kept dancing. Finally the officials decided it was dangerous and shut down the music. But for that few minutes, Lionel Richie gave the athletes, the crowd, and even those of us thousands of miles away watching the event on TV, the joy of celebrating together. I always thought I was the only person moved by this event, but have talked to other people my age and they also remember.

They say the pen is mightier than the sword; I guess music is too.
  • Douglas from Cincinnati, OhAll Night Long was actually Richie's 5th solo single(if you count Endless Love). Between Endless Love & All Night Long, he charted with Truly, You Are & My Love.(D. Davis, Cincinnati, OH)
