  • I've seen the bright lights of Memphis
    And the Commodore Hotel
And underneath a street lamp, I met a Southern belle
Well, she took me to the river, where she cast her spell
And in that southern moonlight, she sang a song so well

If you'll be my Dixie chicken, I'll be your Tenessee lamb
And we can walk together down in Dixieland
    Down in Dixieland

Well, we made all the hot spots, my money flowed like wine
Then that low down southern whiskey began to fog my mind
And I don't remember church bells or the money I put down
On the white picket fence and boardwalk of the house at the edge of town
Oh, but boy, do I remember the strain of her refrain
The nights we spent together, and the way she called my name

If you'll be my Dixie chicken, I'll be your Tenessee lamb
And we can walk together down in Dixieland
    Down in Dixieland

Well, it's been a year since she ran away
Yes, that guitar player sure could play
She always liked to sing along, she's always handy with a song
Then one night in the lobby, yeah, of the Commodore Hotel
I chanced to meet a bartender who said he knew her well
And as he handed me a drink, he began to hum a song
And all the boys there, at the bar, began to sing along

If you'll be my Dixie chicken, I'll be your Tenessee lamb
And we can walk together down in Dixieland

  • James from PittsvilleDixie Chicks removed 'Dixie' because why? WTF? That happened 150 years ago, and 'Dixie' is a word. What's next? Calling Dixie Cups just 'Cups'?? The softness of the American psyche is pathetic. Grow up and get over it. Not one person living today is affected by any of that, and some group of singers should just sing, and stay out of trumped up social issues.
  • Jackson T from Dixie“Lady Antebellum re-branded as Lady A). The word Dixie refers to the Confederate-era South, which was a time of slavery.“

Let us not forget that Robert E Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia in April 1865. Although Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation unconstitutionally freed the slaves in the Southern states, slavery was not ended in the North until December 1865. In fact, slavery was legal under the US flag a whole lot longer than it was under the Confederate flag. Do not allow presentism to control your thoughts when understanding American history. The people of the South came out of the womb into a society with pre-existing issues. The South did not invent the institution of slavery, the entire world had slavery. Every time you complain about big government remember that I have ancestors dead in the ground from fighting a war to protect you from that same big government.

  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyPaul Barrere, guitarist and vocalist for the iconic eclectic rock band Little Feat, passed away on October 26th, 2019 at the age of 71 {liver cancer}...
Mr. Barrere joined the band in 1972 and was a member of the band for almost 50 years. He could not play on Little Feat’s current tour as he was getting treatment for liver cancer. Barrere was in the band for their landmark 1973 album, 'Dixie Chicken', contributing the song “Walkin’ All Night". After original member Lowell George died in 1979, Barrere became the principal songwriter for the band...
    May he R.I.P.
  • Scott from WashingtonI really get a kick out of this song every time I hear it. I remember it when it was new, my Uncle loved this type of music and I just loved the sound of it when I was a boy. Of course I didn’t understand it then but I do now and I like it even better. I thank them all for the smiles it brings every time I hear it!
