  • Everyone's watching, to see what you will do
    Everyone's looking at you, oh
Everyone's wondering, will you come out tonight
Everyone's trying to get it right, get it right

    Everybody's working for the weekend
    Everybody wants a little romance
Everybody's goin' off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from the start
You wanna be in the show
    Come on baby let's go

Everyone's looking to see if it was you
Everyone wants you to come through
Everyone's hoping it'll all work out
    Everyone's waiting they're holding out

    Everybody's working for the weekend
    Everybody wants a little romance
    Hey, hey
Everybody's goin' off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from the start
You wanna be in the show
    Come on baby let's go
    Hey

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from the start
You wanna be in the show
    Come on baby let's go

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from the start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let's go Writer/s: Matthew Frenette, Mike Reno, Paul Dean

  • Oliver Clothesoff from Not HerePlenty of info out there about the title’s backstory, but not the actual lyrics:

“Everyone's watching to see what you will do.”…”Everyone's wondering, will you come out tonight?”…”Everyone's looking to see if it was you.”

    Who is the subject?
  • Drewpm99 from Niwot, CoPretty good song. But this band suffered from a severe lack of musical talent, and pedestrian chops. Imagine what a band like the Who, or the Cure, could do with a song like this, had they written it…
  • Zorro from UsaWorking for the Weekend is such a great song, but I hate the verse that goes:
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from the start
You wanna be in the show
    Come on baby let's go

It's kind of cheesy and it doesn't really fit the song. I think better lyrics would be:
    It's Friday afternoon
    We'll be getting off soon
    The weekend is here
    So, let's give a cheer!

Then they could play some crowd noise on the track, like a sudden eruption of screaming and cheering when someone scores a touchdown or hits a homerun, or scores a goal in soccer. The crowd noise would be in the background, behind the music. In their live performances, after he sings "So, let's give a cheer," the crowd could yell out as he holds the microphone towards the crowd.
  • Joel from CanadaGosh. Talk about a blast from the past. Great tune from 1981.
  • Seventhmist from 7th HeavenUsed to great effect in a Radio Shack ad ("The eighties called...they want their Radio Shack back.") that spotlighted several 1980s icons, including Mary Lou Retton and Hulk Hogan.
  • Paul B. from South Jersey, UsaOne of my favorite songs...!
Especially to dance to the awesome hook!
  • Luke from Manchester, UkDrew - B'ham, Al - Big Brother didn't write or originally record Piece Of My Heart. It was written by Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns and originally recorded by Erma Franklin (Aretha's big sister) in 1967.
  • Esskayess from Dallas, TxFor years, Seattle station KUBE would play this song at 5 pm every Friday, preceded by a familiar brass fanfare, the screech of a bird and Fred Flintstone’s “Eeee-Yabba-Dabba-Doo!” plus a chorus of voices shouting “IT’S THE WEEKEND!” I always enjoyed hearing that.
  • Jeff from Boston, MaOne of the best opening riffs ever, then the rest of the song is completely ordinary. Compare to the Hollies' "Long Cool Woman".
  • Bob from Schenectady, NyWhen I was a kid I always thought they meant they were working on the weekend. Some people would go camping for the weekend, they were working.
  • Drew from B\'ham, AlFor a while, I thought this was the song titled "Piece of My Heart" from hearing the last line of the refrain, until I listened to the real "Piece of My Heart". I should've known this (by Loverboy) does not sound like Big Brother & the Holding Company. Anyway, I like this better than "Piece of My Heart".
