  • I was a car hop
    You were into be-bop
You sang do wop diddy wop diddy wop doo
All of them changes you put me through

If I could go back again
Well I know I'd never let you go
Back with some of my friends
    To that wonderful

    '65 love affair
    We wasn't gettin' nowhere
    But we didn't care
    It was a crazy
    '65 love affair
Rock 'n' roll was simple and clear
Oh, I still can hear I can hear it baby
    Well I asked you like a dumb-dumb
You were bad with your pom-poms
You said ooh wah go team ooh wah go
Ooh-ee baby I want you to know

If I could go back in time
Well, I know somehow you'd still be mine
    I wouldn't be so blind
    To that wonderful

    '65 love affair
When rock 'n' roll was simple and clear
    Oh, I still can hear
    I can hear it baby

Well, I tried to make you give in
    One night at the drive-in
You said oh no baby, oh no woo
All of them changes you put me through

If I could go back in time
Well, I know somehow you'd still be mine
    I wouldn't be so blind
    To that wonderful

We sang doo wop diddy wop diddy wop doo
Doo wop diddy wop diddy wop doo Writer/s: PAUL DAVIS

  • Mike Van Zandt from ArkansasIs it just me or do the background vocals sound like Huey Lewis & The News? It was a trivia question back in '82 and since then I've not found anything anywhere about whom the bg vocals were. But if I had to bet money, I'd say The News. Maybe if you had the original album it would be more known who those guys were.

  • Karen from Manchester, NhJennifer Harris, what probably broke them up was graduation...and life in general.
  • Paul from Detroit, MiI loved this song along with all of Paul's Davis' earlier stuff. Sad that he felt the song was a sell out. Nothing wrong with doing an upbeat pop song.
I agree that the song's lyrics sounded more like a '55 love affair than a '65, but they still fit, okay.
  • Howard from St. Louis Park, MnThis was one of my favorite songs of the early 80s. It had a bouncy, country-rock beat.
  • Jennifer Harris from Grand Blanc, MiI love this song! What broke the lovers Up?
  • Ekristheh from Halath, United StatesOh, there were still car hops, doo-wop and drive-ins in 1965. I remember them very well.
