  • Welcome, this is a farmhouse.
    We have cluster flies, alas.
And this time of year is bad.

    We are so very sorry
There is little we can do,
    But swat them

She didn't beg, oh not enough.
She didn't stay when things got rough.
I told a lie and she got mad
She wasn't there when things got bad

I never ever saw the Northern Lights
    (This is a farmhouse)
I never really heard of cluster flies
    (Cluster flies, alas)
I never ever saw the stars so bright
    (This is a farmhouse)
In the Farmhouse, it will be alright
    (Cluster flies, alas)

Brought this one to the stinging lash
Every man rise from the ash
    Each betrayal begins with trust
    Every man returns to dust

I never ever saw the Northern Lights
    (This is a farmhouse)
I never ever heard a cluster fly
    (Cluster flies, alas)
I never ever saw the stars so bright
    (This is a farmhouse)
In the promise that you'll be all right
(Cluster flies, alas) Writer/s: TOM MARSHALL, TREY ANASTASIO

  • Randy from Ashland, Ohgood tune,..no matter where you go in life, there's always some heartache no matter how nice things may seem,..at first.
    Poor Tray.
  • Jon from North Reading, MaTrey wrote the music, but the lyrics are all Marshall.
  • Josh from New York, BarbadosTrey Anastasio and Tom Marshall wrote this at a Vermont farmhouse that inspired the song. When they arrived, there was a note saying something like: "Welcome. This is a farmhouse. We have cluster flies this time of year. There is little we can do." This was incorporated into the lyrics. (thanks, Matt - Stratham, NH)
  • Leah from Pittsfield, MaI take it that a girl broke Trey's heart and (in the 3rd verse) he goes to a farmhouse to get away from things and see the bigger picture, and realizes the stinging conclusion that all of his pain is part of a cycle and he will have to bear it and go through the rest of the cycle.
