A Pillow Of Winds

Album: Meddle (1971)

  • A cloud of eiderdown
    Draws around me
    Softening a sound
    Sleepy time, and I lie
With my love by my side
    And she's breathing low

    And the candle dies

When night comes down, you lock the door
The book falls to the floor
As darkness falls and waves roll by
The seasons change, the wind is warm

Now wakes the owl, now sleeps the swan
Behold a dream, the dream is gone
Green fields, a cold rain is falling
    In a golden dawn

    And deep beneath the ground
    The early morning sounds
    And I go down
    Sleepy time, when I lie
With my love by my side
    And she's breathing low
And I rise, like a bird
In the haze, when the first rays
    Touch the sky
And the night winds die Writer/s: David Jon Gilmour, George Roger Waters

  • Robert from Why?I am listening to Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast and I noticed that the middle part, Sunny Side Up, sounds a hell of a lot like this song. Gilmour's slide is so beautiful.
  • Kacy from Huntington, VtUnfortunately, there is not enough information on the creative process of writing and recording Floyd's music. I would love to have a quick chat with Gilmour to ask him about those exact things. seems this song means different things depending on when you listen to it. No idea what it all could have meant to Gilmour at the time he wrote it, but like many of floyds songs it could be about SO many things because of it universality. sometimes I just think they are a little too good... aliens?!!
  • Drake from Huntington Beach, CaTruly a beautiful piece. There are very few bands that write such peaceful pieces such as this. It's enough to make me listen to it in the evening with the sunset, to waking up in the middle of the night, to seeing the set rise at dawn. It's strange but beautiful at the same time.
  • Stacey from Houston, Txhhmmmm.....think I'll go lay down now.....and dream!
  • Oldpink from New Castle, InDavid from Syracuse, there is only one version of this song, the studio track found on "Meddle."
There is no known alternative or outtake version, and Pink Floyd never once performed it live, although I think it would have been magnificent as a quiet interlude.
    This is all there is.
  • David from Syracuse, NyGilmour sings lead vocals. This song is so mellow and intense at the same time. This version is not the one I am familiar with, but it is fantastic, nonetheless. Where does this version come from? Help me, Floyd fans.
    -Dave in Syracuse NY
  • Todd from Racine, WiAnyone know who sings lead on this?
  • Frank from Granchester Meadows, GreenlandTruly one of their best tracks, EVER!
  • Daevid from Glendale, Caa great period piece by The Pink Floyd.
  • Oldpink from New Castle, InThis is absolutely gorgeous, and I wonder why they never performed this one and the following track, "Fearless" live.
It features some of Dave's finest slide work, and it is so pretty and tranquil that it would make an angry gorilla sit down to listen.
The rest of the album it came from, "Meddle," is also fantastic, especially "Echoes."
  • Sheeberson from Wrightsville Beach, Ncthis song really is beautiful.
  • Dj from Minneapolis, MnOne of the most peaceful songs you will ever hear. This is a fantastic tune.
  • Ryan from Whycocomagh, CanadaVery peaceful soothing song...great work as always
  • Sina from Memphis, TnThis is one of the more mellow songs by Pink Floyd, and I love it!
