  • Sammy was low
    Just watching the show
    Over and over again
    Knew it was time
    He'd made up his mind
To leave his dead life behind
    His boss said to him
    Boy you'd better begin
To get those crazy notions right out of your head
Sammy who do you think that you are
You should've been sweeping up the Emerald bar

Spread your wings and fly away
    Fly away far away
Spread your little wings and fly away
    Fly away far away
    Pull yourself together
'Cause you know you should do better
    That's because you're a free man

He spends his evenings alone in his hotel room
Keeping his thoughts to himself he'd be leaving soon
Wishing he was miles and miles away
Nothing in this world nothing would make him stay

    Since he was small
    Had no luck at all
    Nothing came easy to him
    Now it was time
    He'd made up his mind
This could be my last chance

His boss said to him now listen boy
    You're always dreaming
You've got no real ambition you won't get very far
Sammy boy don't you know who you are
Why can't you be happy at the Emerald bar

    So honey
Spread your wings and fly away
    Fly away far away
Spread your little wings and fly away
    Fly away far away
    Pull yourself together
'Cause you know you should do better
    That's because you're a free man
Come on honey Writer/s: John Deacon

  • Juanita Floydcox from Usa - Virginia I grew up with Queen.
    I loved them.
And, I miss ALL of them.
  • Tanya from U.k.Spread your wings is one of my favourite Queen songs. Written by John an awesome song much underrated. It's much loved by Queen fans. XXX
  • Matstery from Colorado, UsaQueen was the first band I ever saw live.... News of the World tour, 1977, 14th row, center-stage. I was 11 years old at the time. My mom dropped my friend and me off and picked us up four hours later (parents would be arrested for doing that today!). Hard to believe, but I was a huge music fan, beginning in 6th grade. Queen was my favorite band; News of the World was my favorite album; and "Spread Your Wings" was my favorite song on the album. Still under-appreciated in the big picture, but a masterpiece among "real" fans.
  • Scott from UsaHe spends his evenings alone in his hotel room he be leaving soon suicide?
  • Mike from MaI agree this song is very underrated, but I feel that here in the U.S. unless you're a Queen fan, most people only remember them for Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, We Will Rock You and Another One Bites the Dust. This song is another one of Queen's gems and they had so many great songs. I love this song. Queen is my favorite band and I totally agree Freddie was a brilliant man and its amazing to see that even now, twenty four years after his death, he still tops nearly every list I've seen as the best front man in rock. The man was truly phenomenal and there will never be another one like him. Amazing voice and he is truly missed. This song rocks!!!
  • Brent from Denair, CaAwesome Queen song and both commentors are correct.....very underrated! Freddie was absolutely brilliant and truly not appreciated until post-death. The band's music is timeless and will forever be their legacy.
  • Jessica from Tremonton, UtWow - where are all the comments about this stellar song? Truly one of Queen's most underrated songs. One of my faves to blast in the car!
