  • Pariah dogs and wandering madmen
Barking at strangers and speaking in tongues
The ebb and flow of tidal fortune
Electrical changes are charging up the young

Ooh, it's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
Ooh, it's a far cry from the way we thought we'd share it
Ooh, you can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowing

One day I feel I'm on top of the world
And the next it's falling in on me
    I can get back on
    I can get back on

One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel
And the next it's rolling over me
    I can get back on
    I can get back on

Whirlwind life of faith and betrayal
Rise in anger, fall back, and repeat
Slow degrees on the dark horizon
Full moon rising lays silver at your feet

Ooh, it's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
Ooh, it's a far cry from the way we thought we'd share it
Ooh, you can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowing

One day I feel I'm on top of the world
And the next it's falling in on me
    I can get back on
    I can get back on

One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel
And the next it's rolling over me
    I can get back on
    I can get back on

It's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
You can almost see the circle growing
You can almost feel the planet glowing

One day I feel I'm on top of the world
And the next it's falling in on me
    I can get back on
    I can get back on

One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel
And the next it's rolling over me
    I can get back on
    I can get back on

One day I fly through a crack in the sky
And the next it's falling in on me
    I can get back on

  • Eric from Bend, OrRush is one of my favorite bands, and I think this is a good song, but this song (and its style) is not among my favorites of Rush. Rush has changed their style several times throughout their history; Presto and Counterparts (and maybe Roll The Bones) so far are the only albums of Rush's that I like since their change back to a more guitar-driven sound. I've never been much of a metal or hard rock fan, and I feel a little alienated at Rush's change in style. Then again, I am thankful for their change in styles, as some of my favorite Rush music is their 80s stuff, as well as some of their early 90s stuff.
  • Allison from A Little Ol' Town In, MiI love this song. I am not a metal fan but that sounded great. I LOVE RUSH!!! I was kind of anxious about how they would fare in 2007 and wondered if they would have the same soudn that they had before, but it was totally worth it going for another album. Most classic bands aren't cut out to survive this long, but like the Stones and Aerosmith, I think Rush can do it just as well or maybe better then those bands
  • Kevin from New York, NdAWESOME metal intro great solid song BRINGS out the best of Rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • John from Asheville, NcVery strong album opener. Song grows on you like crazy even though the first listen is solid to begin. My son, who's not really into Rush, grabbed onto this tune quickly.
  • Michael from Frederick, MdGreat opener from what I feel is Rush's best CD since Grace Under Pressure. Many of the cuts from "Snakes and Arrows" are just awesome to see live... this one especially.
  • Paul from Rothesay, New Brunswick , CanadaThe story goes that Geddy and Alex had come up with the music for this track during a time when lyricist/drummer Neil Peart wasn't around. He was traveling back and forth from the States during the recording of the album. Geddy happened upon some old lyrics that Neil had left behind, and found that they fit with the music that Lee/Lifeson had created.
