  • How many times
Do we tire of all the little battles
    Threaten to call it quits
    Tempted to cut and run?

    How many times
Do we weather out the stormy evenings?
Long to slam the front door
Drive away into the setting sun

    Keep going on 'til dawn
How many times must another line be drawn?
We could be down and gone
    But we hold on

    Keep going on 'til dawn
How many times must another line be drawn?
We could be down and gone
    But we hold on

    How many times
Do we chaff against the repetition?
    Straining against the faith
    Measured out in coffee breaks

    How many times
    Do we swallow our ambition?
Long to give up the same old way
    Find another road to take

    Keep going on 'til dawn
How many times must another line be drawn?
We could be down and gone
    But we hold on

    Keep holding on so long
'Cause there's a chance that we might not be so wrong
We could be down and gone
    But we hold on

    How many times
Do we wonder if it's even worth it?
There's got to be some other way
Way to get me through the day

    Keep going on 'til dawn
How many times must another line be drawn?
We could be down and gone
    But we hold on

    Keep going on 'til dawn
How many times must another line be drawn?
We could be down and gone
But we hold on Writer/s: Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee Weinrib, Neil Peart

  • Marley from Concepcion, ChileI don't think it's so much about religion as it is about how we hold on to the routines and rituals in our lives, and are afraid of letting go of that and jumping into an unknown, uncertain future. We're afraid of change, and we hold on to our poor, petty lives instead of risking that stability to try and get some adventure, some excitement out of life. "How many times do we (...) Long to slam the front door Drive away into the setting sun". This to me speaks of wishing to live a life of daring and adventure, but not doing so out of fear. This can also, of course, be stretched to religion: we hold on to the easy answers given by the Bible or any other religion, and don't dare actually trying to explain or solve things for ourselves
  • John from Eagan, MnOne of my favorite RUSH songs. I can't believe how they continue to improve with age. Snakes & Arrows is their best studio album to date.
  • David from Port Hawkesbury, CanadaPurely about the religious beliefs of the west and parts of the east, how they've been battered and destroyed beyond reasonable belief by science and logic, yet people still believe. Sad, really.
