  • The beat goes on, the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da

Charleston was once the rage, uh huh
History has turned the page, uh huh
The mini skirts, the current thing, uh huh
Teenybopper is our newborn king, uh huh

And the beat goes on, the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da

The grocery store's the super mart, uh huh
Little girls still break their hearts, uh huh
And men still keep on marching off to war
Electrically they keep a baseball score

And the beat goes on, the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da

Grandmas sit in chairs and reminisce
Boys keep chasing girls to get a kiss
The cars keep going faster all the time
Bums still cry, "Hey buddy, have you got a dime?"

And the beat goes on, the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da

And the beat goes on, yes, the beat goes on
And the beat goes on, and the beat goes on
The beat goes on, and the beat goes on Writer/s: Sonny Bono

  • Karen from Silver Spring, MdWhen I hear the song, I remember the "Sonny and Cher Hour" because the music was what was played when Sonny and Cher walked on to the stage.
  • Robert from Conway, ArWhen this record became popular, Chrysler Corporation paid $50,000.00 to use parts of the song in commercials.
  • Steve Dotstar from Los Angeles, CaTo use a phrase from the 60's..it's a very "groovy" record, with a great feel!
Steve from SaltLake City...keep that record, it's probably worth a lot of money!
  • Steve from Salt Lake City, UtI had not REEEELIE listened to this song in years after having gotten so mind numbingly tired of hearing it on "Oldies" radio stations for decades!

Well, I won a nice mint copy of the 45 RPM record of "For What It's Worth" by The Buffalo Springfield which had been released on ATCO records in 1967.

So I put the virgin vinyl on the turn table & cranked it up.

    And there it comes!

"The Beat Goes On" by Sonny & Cher! Holy Katz! It had been released on the same lable, Atco & mout have been a pressing plant goof!

Anyway, I let it play though & then played it again...and again!

And I was fascinated by the cool drum work on the song & the other sounds combined to make this a groovy song.
The back up band is none other that the famed "Wrecking Crew" who were L.A. session musicians that backed up everyone from The Beach Boys,Gary Lewis & The Playboys, Fifth Dimention,Johnny Rivers, Mamas & The Papas & all those Phil Spector productions.

Anyway, "The Beat Goes On" is so good I can now see why it sold "Boo Koo" copies back in the day!
