  • Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can't let you slide through my hands
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild wild horses couldn't drag me away
I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you've decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or off stage lights
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild wild horses couldn't drag me away

    Solo

I know I've dreamed you a sin and a lie
I had my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken tears must be cried
Let's do some living after we die
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild wild horses we'll ride them some day

    SOLO

Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild wild horses we'll ride them some day Writer/s: Keith Richards, Michael Philip Jagger

  • Daniel from UsaAnd speaking of bluegrass versions, don't forget the one Leon Russell and New Grass Revival did on their live album.
  • Daniel from UsaPer the liner notes on the "Close Up the Honky Tonks" compilation album, Parsons/the Burritos first became aware of this song when the Stones, who I believe were recording in New York, sent a copy of the work-in-progress master tape to Sneaky Pete Kleinau, the Burritos' pedal steel guitar player. They asked him to record some tasty steel licks, hoping to 'countrify' the track a bit, which he did. In the meantime, the Burrito's listened to the tape, fell in love with the song, and asked if they could cover it, pretty much as described here. The Stones eventually released their version, but without Sneaky Pete in the mix. Perhaps they feared that the steel guitar now made their version sound too much like the Burritos' version which, as pointed out, had already been released some weeks or months earlier.
  • Michael Rieck from Des Moines, IaSadly overlooked the bluegrass version by "Old and in the Way."
  • Eric from Springfield, IlThe Rolling Stones recorded the song in December of 1969 in Alabama. That is documented in the film “Gimme Shelter.” In fact, Keith Richards finished writing the song in the studio’s bathroom.
