The second thing to note is Robert Johnson (a genius in his own right) lifted the tune from Leroy Carr's "In the Evening, When the Sun Goes Down" which predates "Love In Vain".

I must give Johnson credit for originally composing the song, but I think the Stones' version has more of an emotional impact on me. The music combined with Mick Jagger's passionate wails are deeply poignant.
