  • (Come on)
Everyone, we got to get together now
Oh yeah, love's the only thing that matters anyhow
And the beauty of life can only survive
    If we love one another

Oh yeah, yesterday my friends were marching out to war
Oh yeah, listen now, we ain't a-marching anymore
    No, we ain't gonna fight
    Only God has the right
To decide who's to live and die

He gave us sweet cherry wine
    So very fine
We'll drink it right down, pass it all around
    So stimulating, so intoxicating
    Sweet cherry wine
    (To all day and night)
And everybody's gonna feel so fine
    Drinking sweet cherry wine
    Yes, they will

Watch the mountain turn to dust and blow away
Oh, Lord, you know there's got to be a better way
And the old masquerade is a no soul parade
Marching through the ruins of time

To save us, He gave us sweet cherry wine
    So very fine
We'll drink it right down, pass it all around
    So stimulating, so intoxicating
    Sweet cherry wine
    Everybody's gonna feel so fine
    Drinking sweet cherry wine

    Oh, sweet cherry wine
    So very fine
We'll drink it right down, pass it all around
    So stimulating, so intoxicating
    Sweet cherry wine
Come on, drink it with your brother
    Trust in one another
Yeah, yeah, we need each other

    Sweet cherry wine
You drink it right down, pass it all around
People, don't you know the cup is running over?

    Yeah, yeah, yeah
    (Oh)

  • Mac from Evanston, IlAgree with Ron, Rick, and Martin. And Joe of Monroe, NY: you are correct. "C and C" and "Crystal Blue Persuasion" were both on the "C and C" album released in 1968, and the single "C and C" was released first. But for some reason, "Sweet Cherry Wine" was released as a single before "CBP." "SCW" was then included on TJ and the Shondells' next album, "Cellophane Symphony."
  • Martin from Fresno, CaI agree with both Ron and Rick.
  • Rick from Belfast, MeRight on Ron.....a fantastic and beautiful song it is....Tommy made some sweet music
  • Mike from Eastman, Gawas this song also a protest against the war in Vietnam?
  • Joe from Monroe, NyThe actual order of single releases by TJ & the Shondells was: Crimson & Clover, Sweet Cherry Wine, THEN Crystal Blue Persuasion. There is a marvelous gospel version from 2005 that was done by Tommy James with The Kootz.
  • Grace from Reno / Tahoe , Nvlove it ! babykisses
  • Ron from Bothell, WaSweet Cherry Wine is a beautiful song that doesn't get as much airplay as it should. Tommy James has said that "Sweet Cherry Wine" refers to the blood of Jesus Christ. As the lyrics say
"Only God has the right to decide who's to live and die". "To save us He gave us sweet cherry wine". Ron
