Stand And Deliver

  • The wind and the moon are behind me
I feel like a highway man of old
Don't give no mercy I don't need no alibi
I'm out to pick me some love from the jewelled sky

Watch for me by the moonlight
If hell doesn't block my way
And you will be my prize of the night
(And) If I'm only dreaming, tell me how and why
I'm gonna take your love or your life
    Stand and deliver

When I climb inside your window
With more in my mind than a share of the night
You can kick bite and scratch, but you'll have to surrender
The chances are you won't see me no more

  • Fred Bloggs from WalesThis song is clearly about rape. It says "I'm going to take your love or your life", and "You can kick bite and scratch me but you'll have to surrender". How explicit is that. The Noyes poem is called the Highwayman but it's about a woman who dies to protect her lover Highwayman, there's no real mention of sex or "love" as Wishbone Ash prefer. Completely different. I don't know how Wisefield could write on such a subject for such a trivial thing as a pop song, how can you put yourself in the shoes of a rapist for a tune.
