Songfacts®:

  • "Lick It" is a pro-cunnilingus song with all the subtlety of old dynamite. If you want to kick it with singer Roula, you're going to have to lick it – and that's all there is to say about that.
  • Baby work it
    You know men are dogs
So go bark up someone else's tree

20 Fingers' debut single, "Short Dick Man," was a surprise hit across the US, UK, and Europe. It was a reaction to '90s rap music debasing and sexualizing women. The same impulse can be seen here with "Lick It." Despite the outrageous lyrics, 20 Fingers - a production team out of Chicago - were trying to make a serious point.
  • "Lick It" rode the momentum of "Short Dick Man." The song performed well in the US and UK and did even better in Europe, even reaching #1 in Italy. Despite the relatively impressive sales, it fell short of "Short Dick Man." The band had a bit more success with their next single, "Mr. Personality," but each effort was a diminishing return and the group faded away soon afterwards.
  • This is the only song on the On the Attack and More album that doesn't have Gillette on vocals. It instead has another female vocalist, Roula. The collaboration started as Gillette's solo debut album, titled On the Attack, noting 20 Fingers as producers. After the smash success of "Short Dick Man," 20 Fingers added "Lick It" to the track list and released the effort again with the title On the Attack and More. 20 Fingers also included "Lick It" on their second studio album, which was self-titled everywhere except France (where it was called L'Album) and Asia (where it was called The Best of 20 Fingers because it included every song from the band's first album, which was every song they had made).
  • On February 10, 2009, DJ Felli Fel had a minor hit with "Feel It," which samples heavily from "Lick It." Songwriters on the track include Felli Fel, Pitbull, Flo Rida, Sean Paul, Manfred Mohr (a 20 Fingers founder), Carlos Rosario (also of 20 Fingers), and Faheem Najm.
