Songfacts®:

  • Here, Offset tips his hat to the legendary WWE Hall of Famer and 16-World Champion Ric Flair. The "Nature Boy" Ric Flair is widely regarded as the greatest professional wrestler of all time and had a career that spanned 40 years between 1972 and 2012. Flair was renowned for his flamboyance, over-the-top bragging and feuds. (He gave himself the "Nature Boy" moniker in order to wind up the original "Nature Boy," Buddy Rogers). The Migos rapper boasts during this cut about his similarly lavish and wild lifestyle.
  • Offset pays tribute to Ric Flair's signature catchphrase - a shout of "Wooooooo!" that he used to taunt his opponents. Flair got the inspiration for his "Wooo!" yell from Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great Balls of Fire."

Ric Flair drip go 'woo' on a bitch

Flair's "Wooo" chant has been used frequently in hip-hop music in particular, including the rapper Pusha T. On his 2013 track "Sweet Serenade," where he spits, "They love me on my Ric Flair s—t. Woo!" Four years later, Young Thug referenced Ric Flair's golden rolex watch on the track "Patek Water" when he rapped, "The Rollie on Ric Flair, my wrist is just wet up. Woo!" Offset, himself has utilized a similar "woo" as an ad-lib in his verses in the past, notably on Migos' 2016 hit "Bad and Boujee."
  • Though Without Warning is a collaborative studio album between 21 Savage, Offset and Metro Boomin, Offset is the only rapper on this track.
  • In the flashy Shomi Patwary-directed video, Offset, Metro Boomin and Ric Flair ride in a Rolls-Royce, stroll through a huge mansion, and flaunt gaudy jewelry.
  • Offset admitted to Billboard that he didn't anticipate the song becoming a hit and only finished his second verse a day before it was released. "I never thought 'Ric Flair Drip' would be that big," he said. "Metro [Boomin'] was the ni--a who told me like, 'This is the one.'"
