Songfacts®:

  • "N.H.I.E." brings 21 Savage and Doja Cat together for the first time. Savage spits fire about his lifestyle, big wins, now-resolved immigration status, as well as his bedroom game and self-respect. In the hook, Savage says he plays by his rules, which include being truthful.
  • The enigmatic title, "N.H.I.E.," remains officially unexplained by 21 Savage. According to Genius, it's an acronym for "Never Have I Ever," a party game where participants take turns making statements beginning with "Never have I ever" followed by an action or experience.
  • During her verse, Doja lists things she doesn't do. She states she:

    Never lies
    Never hollers at her lover
    Never cries
Stays out of beefs with other artists
Never puts herself beneath one of her idols
She won't submit to her lover. Rather, she'll make him submissive to her.
  • "N.H.I.E." was initially slated for Doja's fourth studio album, Scarlet. Despite being teased live several times, it didn't make the final cut.
  • Kurtis McKenzie, Scribz Riley, and Jonah Stevens created the smooth trap beat.

British producer Kurtis McKenzie, formerly known as The Arcade, has produced several tracks for Doja Cat, including "Ain't S--t" and "Balut."

English producer Scribz Riley's other credits include Cardi B's"Ring" and J Hus' "Play Play."
