Songfacts®:

  • This is the fourth single from rapper 50 Cent's 4th studio album, Before I Self Destruct. The song finds 50 Cent championing his baby-making technique.
  • The song was premiered on September 9, 2009 by Funk Master Flex on his Hot 97 radio show.
  • This starts off with a sample from 50 Cent's 2007 single, "I Get Money."
  • The song features guest star Ne-Yo on the chorus.
  • Ne-Yo told MTV News about his collaboration with 50 Cent: "He reached out. I always say he did the majority of the heavy lifting. [The song] was pretty much done by the time he sent it to me. He said, 'I just need you to put something on it.' He gave it to me, I wrote my part, sent it back and the rest is history."
Ne-Yo added that he was surprised that 50 asked him to be on the song, because it sounded great already. He said: "When he first sent me the joint, I was like, 'You don't need me for this. I thought the beat was hot, what he was talking about was hot. I just tried to add to the hotness."
  • Ne-Yo also appears in the song's music video, along with Kelly Rowland, who plays 50's leading lady. Ne-Yo shot his part in New York, while 50 and Rowland filmed in L.A. The New York rapper only chose the Destiny's Child co-founding member for the role two days before the shoot after he ran into her at the Los Premios MTV awards show in Los Angeles.
  • An alternative version of this song featuring up-and-coming singer JoVan Dais is an iTunes only bonus track on Before I Self Destruct. 50 told DJ Whoo Kid on Sirius Satellite Radio: "The album version of the song was the one where you don't even know the singer. I did the reference in the studio. It's a little more visual. Ne-Yo lightened it up a little bit and made it ready for radio. It works. I gotta sift through and see what I'm gonna put on the album. The Ne-Yo record is a stronger radio version."
  • 50 Cent told MTV News that he persuaded Rowland to appear in the video at the last minute as he felt she brought the star power he needed. "Kelly was getting ready to fly back to Miami. I was lucky enough to catch her. I kinda begged my way into her doing it," 50 said. "I didn't want to do the normal video situation, where you have the vixen or somebody no one knows from anywhere. I think it intensifies the whole song."
  • The song went viral in 2023 as TikTokkers used Benny Benassi's 2010 remix of "Baby By Me" to express what makes them happy both romantically and sexually.
