Songfacts®:

  • 702 are an American vocal girl group whose final and best-known lineup consists of Irish Grinstead, her sister Lemisha and best friend Kameelah Williams. They were named after the area code of their Las Vegas hometown.
  • This fun anthem was released as the lead single from 702's second album. The song was written by Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, who had previously co-written and produced four tracks for the trio's debut set.
  • Elliott initially wrote the song for TLC. Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes really wanted to record it, but the other two girls weren't so keen so Missy passed it on to 702.
  • Elliott told Billboard that she wanted women to feel empowered when they heard the track.

"It's almost like church - when you go to church, pastor is saying something (and you're) like, 'I swear up and down that message is for me,'" she said. "I wanted to create something women could feel like, 'I could relate to this record.'"
