Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Bad Vibrations, the lyrics, with its talk of footsteps outside the house, were born from experience. "It was Hallowe'en a few years back," said vocalist Jeremy McKinnon. "Me and my girlfriend weren't asleep until three in the morning and out of nowhere, someone just beats on my f---ing window, the one that's right above our bed. She calls the cops. I get up and the door's open; some kid in the neighbourhood that knew we lived there had come in and f---ed with us. That was terrifying."
  • McKinnon explained the song's meaning: "The verse is this guy talking to somebody about what they're going through, the pre-chorus is the doctor and what he's telling this person about it, and then the chorus is the paranoia personified. It's a switching of perspectives."
  • This was the Bad Vibrations track that came together the fastest. McKinnon told HMV.com: "That just happened one night, it took about three hours to make and then we recorded it the next day. Super quick."
