Songfacts®:

  • To the uninitiated, the song itself will have little or nothing to do with Dirk, however he is dressed, but Dirk Bogarde (1921-'99) was a massive box office star in his day. In 1974, he starred in the film Il Portiere Di Notte (in English The Night Porter). Like "Deutscher Girls," this song seems to have been inspired by that film. Adam Ant is a great Bogarde fan. >>>

  • Dirk Wears White Sox is the title of the first Adam & The Ants album, but this song isn't on it. The song was never released and only appears on bootlegs, including In Bondage: 1978-1979.
