Songfacts®:

  • Altered Images were performing at the Royal Variety Performance in front of the Queen and vocalist Clare Grogan borrowed a pair of her sister's shoes, which were 2 sizes too big for her. She stuffed them with toilet paper but halfway through singing this song, it had worked loose. As she sang, there was a long trail of white loo roll following her around.
  • Clare Grogan was also an actress who had prior to this becoming a hit had starred in Gregory's Girl. Later she played Ian Beale's love interest in the BBC soap East Enders.

The bassist Johnny McElhone has played with 2 other bands, who have enjoyed a Top 20 presence in the UK singles chart, Hipsway and Texas. He has enjoyed songwriting success as well, apart from co-writing this, "Don't Talk To Me About Love" and "Happy Birthday" for Altered Images and the 1986 single "The Honeythief" for Hipsway, he has co-written most of Texas' hits including "I Don't Want A Lover," "Say What You Want" and "Black Eyed Boy." >>>
