Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of Amy MacDonald's fourth album. She explained to The Sun: "One of my closest friends who was working in New York for the year and was very homesick. I spent a lot of time over there with her and the title track is a song about her experience and the time we spent together."
  • Asked by HMV.com when she settled on Under Stars as the album title, MacDonald replied: "Naming an album is always difficult because it's something you have to live with forever. I put a lot of thought into them and this time I choose 'Under Stars' because it's a song about one of my best friends. I wrote it as an opening track and it's a really good indication of what the album is all about."
