The Funny Farm

Album: The Big Mouse (1988)
Play Video

Songfacts®:

  • This is a novelty song about a man who goes on a killing spree at the behest of a voice in his head; the funny farm being his inevitable destination. Written by Alexander Baron, it was arranged in an entirely different style by Andrew Savage who recorded it with voice and keyboard. "The Funny Farm" appeared on two tape compilations: The Big Mouse, 4 and Super Trouper 21, (also known as/subtitled Leaping); both these publications started life as poetry leaflets. The first issue of The Big Mouse was dated April 1988. (This is the way ordinary folk produced and distributed their poetry and music before the advent of YouTube, MySpace and the Internet in general).
  • Although a long way short of regular studio standards, "The Funny Farm" has stood the test of time remarkably well, as have many of the works he produced at this time, either alone or in conjunction with the ad hoc project known as the Peace & Freedom Band. >>>
