Songfacts®:

  • This was one of the last pieces that Animal Collective composed and recorded for Merriweather Post Pavilion, along with "Bluish" and "No More Runnin'."
  • Dave "Avey Tare" Portner told the French magazine VoxPop that the English dubstep musician Burial was a significant influence on this song. He explained: "During the recording of Strawberry Jam, the album that we listened to most was Donuts by J Dilla. This time, we have listened to Burial's first two albums It creates something totally unique and unprecedented in the context of electronic music. It is both completely alien and dancing... This artist was a great influence for us in the studio, and I think it is felt especially on a song like "Lion In A Coma", even if at first it not really noticeable."
