Songfacts®:

  • Several months before Katy Perry was walking on air, Anise K was singing about the same gravity-defying feat. The Australian recording artist penned the song with American producer KC Porter and it featured guest vocals from American rapper Snoop Dogg, Belgian singer Ian Thomas and American session vocalist Bella Blue. The track was recorded in Perth to take advantage of Snoop Dogg's visit to the Australian city for 2012 Summadayze.
  • The song was originally written with the intention of having Rihanna feature as the lead singer. However, due to scheduling issues, the Bajan star had to drop out and Bella Blue was brought in as a session singer to pitch the song to potential other artists. Such was the quality of her performance that Blue secured her role for the final version.
  • The song was released on December 18, 2012 and became an international hit, reaching the Top Ten in a number of countries including Belgium, Bulgaria and Greece.
  • This was used as the opening number for the Miss Universe 2013 pageant in Moscow, Russia on November 9, 2013.
  • Former 'N Sync singer Lass Bass covered this for his first single release for over a decade. His version also features Bella Blue and Snoop Dogg. "I've been thinking about music for the last couple of years and nothing really resonated with me at all until I got this song from Anise K," he told Billboard magazine. "I listened to it for the first time and I thought, 'Oh my gosh that's a hit.' I have to be a part of this and I signed on immediately and went to the recording studio three days after that."

Bass added the song appealed to him as it can be played in nightclubs around the world and yet it can also be performed acoustically. "It's fun, good dance music and that's what appealed to me," he said. "It had this really cool almost Arabian sound to it with the sitar which I really love and I don't think it's used enough here in America, so that was very different to me and knew it would stand out."
