Songfacts®:

  • Contrary to its title, "Sad Bitch" is not just another song about sadness. After facing various challenges over the past few years, Anne-Marie declares in this upbeat pop song that "sadness is a thing of the past." Instead, she is heading towards a brighter future, ignoring negativity and not worrying about keeping her boyfriend or job.

In the second verse, Anne-Marie speaks about embracing a new era and a transformed version of herself as she proclaims, "I'm feeling so different now."
  • Anne-Marie co-wrote "Sad Bitch" with:

The songwriting and producing duo Billen Ted, comprising Tom Hollings and Sam Brennan. The pair's other credits include KSI and Tom Grennan's "Not Over Yet" and Anne-Marie's 2022 single, "Psycho."

Canadian producer Evan Blair. The Toronto native's other credits include Nessa Barrett's "I Hope Ur Miserable Until Ur Dead" and Dove Cameron's "Boyfriend."

Los Angeles-based songwriter/producer Nami Ondas. Hailing from Santiago, Cape Verde, Ondas has also collaborated with the likes of Ariana Grande ("Six Thirty," "Nasty"), Cordae ("The Parables") and Jack Harlow ("Baxter Avenue").

    American singer-songwriter Upsahl. She also co-wrote Anne-Marie's 2021 "Kiss My (Uh-Oh)" single.

Billen Ted and Evan Blair also produced the track and played all the instruments (synthesizer, keyboards, percussion, drums) between them.
  • Anne-Marie shot the music video at an empty theme park. "It was shut for January," she said, "so just hired it out, but just believe the first thing I said it's way more fun."
