Songfacts®:

  • This song captures the exhilarating feeling of breaking free from a toxic relationship. Anne-Marie knows that her ex probably sees her as a "trainwreck" now that she is single and enjoying her freedom, but in reality she is happier than ever after ditching him.

"The song is about being with someone who's not good for you, but you stay with them because you're scared of what will be afterwards," she explained. "You think that you're going to be down and lost and lonely but then you dump them and realize how much happier you are without them in your life."
  • "Trainwreck" is a single from Anne-Marie's third studio album, Unhealthy. The record was written at four writing camps in 2022 and early 2023. It allowed Anne-Marie to confront and make sense of a range of raw past relationships while also embracing the beauty of new and positive connections.
  • Anne-Marie wrote "Trainwreck" with:

British singer-songwriter and producer Phil Plested. He has co-written songs for a number of artists, including Little Mix ("Touch"), Lewis Capaldi ("Before You Go") and Anne-Marie herself ("Our Song"). As a solo artist, Plested released his debut album First & Foremost in 2018.

British singer-songwriter and producer Kamille. She wrote many of Little Mix' hits, including their UK #1s "Black Magic" and "Shout Out To My Ex." Kamille also-co-penned Anne-Marie's collaboration with Little Mix, "Kiss My (Uh-Oh)."

Kamille and Phil Plested previously collaborated on David Guetta and Bebe Rexha's 2022 hit single "I'm Good (Blue)."
  • Billen Ted, a songwriting and producing duo comprising Tom Hollings and Sam Brennan, produced the song. They also produced the lead single of Unhealthy, "Psycho."
