Songfacts®:

  • This slow sultry jam features Lil Wayne. He raps:

Oh Lord, she grinding on this Grande
Oh Lord, I'm drowning, I'm gonna need that coast guard

Wayne previously played on Ariana Grande's name during his "London Roads" track off the Free Weezy Album

    And I swear everyday
    I'm on my Ariana grind
    De
    I got that yay
  • The song finds the pair swapping stories about their former lovers. "I just broke up with my ex," Grande sings at the beginning. "Now I'm out here single, I don't really know what's next." Fans have been speculating whether she's singing of breaking up with Jai Brooks from the Janoskians, or of her later split with rapper Big Sean.
  • The music video was directed by Grant Singer (The Weeknd's "The Hills" and "Can't Feel My Face" plus Sky Ferreria's "I Blame Myself"). We see Grande posing, stretching and rolling around on her bed, couch and on top of a piano. Then Wayne suddenly appears with a Donald Trump-baiting "Make America Skate Again" hat.

Apparently the sunglasses that Grande wears are her favorite pair ever. She picked up the vintage shades from a Tokyo boutique.
