Songfacts®:

  • Not to be confused with the earlier duet of the same title, this John Wetton/Geoff Downes composition is the third track on the 2014 Gravitas album wherein it runs to 6 minutes 38 seconds. In an interview with The Midlands Rocks later the same year, Wetton said it summed up the whole album lyrically:

"[It] is a song about a guy who really doesn't know what's going on, he can't understand what's happening and he's just sort of lost in this whirlpool of emotions. We've all been through it, except for Sam. We've all been through divorce and it's a painful thing to do. Painful. And it lasts the rest of your life."

The Sam alluded to is Asia guitarist Sam Coulson, who at that time was 27 years old. John Wetton died January 31, 2017, age 67. >>>
